Are you passionate about the stories that built the Texas Panhandle? We are looking for dedicated residents to help us protect and promote the heritage of Potter County. You don't need to be a professional historian to make a difference; we need a diverse team with a wide range of "boots-on-the-ground" skills.
The "Perfect" Candidate is Someone Who:
Is a Local Advocate: You are a resident of Potter County who takes pride in our community's unique identity—from our ranching roots to our mid-century landmarks.
Enjoys the "Detective Work": You like digging into archives, old newspapers, and family records to uncover the truth behind a local legend or a historic building.
Is a Storyteller: Whether through social media, public speaking, or writing, you enjoy sharing history in a way that connects with people today.
Is a Professional Partner: You are comfortable reaching out to local business owners, city officials, or educators to build the partnerships that keep preservation alive.
Has a "Maker" Mindset: We need people who are willing to help maintain historical markers, organize dedication ceremonies, or lead a tour of a local cemetery.
Values Transparency: You understand that as a member of a County Commission, you are a public official committed to integrity, open meetings, and serving all citizens of Potter County.
Specific Skills We Are Currently Seeking:
Researchers & Genealogists (to verify marker applications).
Photographers & Social Media Savants (to manage our digital presence).
Educators & Retired Teachers (to help us connect with local schools).
Grant Writers & Organizers (to help fund our preservation projects).
The PCHC is a working commission. While we love a good story, our members are expected to attend regular meetings and serve on at least one committee. If you have a few hours a month to dedicate to ensuring Potter County’s past has a future, we want to hear from you!
